Cantina Berritta “Tziu Martine” Vermentino di Sardegna

Viticulture: certified organic
Soil type: volcanic, weathered granite
Elevation: 120m
Grapes: Vermentino
Method of fermentation: temperature-controlled stainless steel. Destemmed. Fermented with indigenous yeast.
Bottles made: 10,000

2023 "Tziu Martine"  - This was a very hot vintage in Dorgali. Luckily, the area is high above sea level, separated by mountains from Sardinia's most beautiful beaches. Fog is common in the Oddoene valley where Antonio Berritta and his family farm 10 hectares of vines. In spite of heat (and maybe related to abundant May rainfall) this wine is pristine: ripe melon, almond, a pinch of salt.. It's certified organic Vermentino screaming for crudo, or an alternate version of raw fish.

Cantina Berritta “Panzale” Isola dei Nuraghi bianco

Viticulture: certified organic
Soil type: volcanic, weathered granite
Elevation: 120m above sea level
Grapes: Panzale, a variety native to Dorgali
Method of fermentation: chilled to 5 degrees Celsius, pressed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation. After 18 hours of fermentation at 18 degrees Celsius with the skins, the wine finishes fermentation in steel tank.
Bottles made: very small quantities!

2023 Panzale Isola dei Nuraghi bianco - A rare grape, native to Dorgali. It tasted of orchard fruit, apple and plum, some almond. There's barely any: don't tell your friends!

Cantina Berritta "Marinu" Rosé Cannonau di Sardegna

Viticulture: certified organic
Soil type: volcanic, weathered granite
Elevation: 180m above sea level
Grapes: Cannonau
Method of fermentation: Macerated on the skins for 6-12 hours. Fermented at 18 degrees Celsius for approximately 20 days.
Bottles made: 5,000

2023 "Marinu" Rosé Cannonau di Sardegna $16.99, 300 bottles available - I need a trip to the beach. It's still warm enough. Marinu is better than ordinary beach trip rose. Forty year old vines (certified organic) planted in weathered granite soils, 180m above sea level. The name is a reference to fog that rolls into this mountainous area from the Tyrrhenian sea just a few kilometers away.

Cantina Berritta "Nostranu" Cannonau di Sardegna

Viticulture: certified organic
Soil type: volcanic, weathered granite
Elevation: 180m above sea level
Grapes: Cannonau
Method of fermentation: Destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tank. Manual punch downs for 8-10 days. Malolactic fermentation in steel tank. Bottled eight months after the harvest.
Bottles made: 20,000

2022 "Nostranu" Cannonau di Sardegna - Seventy five percent of this small farm is planted with Cannonau vines. In a good year they make 20,000 bottles of it. Oddoene is a classical area for farming this grape, primarily because Cannonau thrives in the granitic soils common in the valley. Tasted in January, the wine was already nicely balanced. Plenty of red fruit, medium-weight, some structure. The wine is picked in early September. Average vine age is twenty years. If you like floral Grenache, Nostranu is for you.
